"Dress for Success," - What it really means

We've all heard the term, "Dress for Success," right? But how much of a role do our clothing choices have in our confidence and ability to kick ass at work? For many, Mondays can be struggle bus days and we all know how hard it can be to go back to work after a memorable weekend.

What if there's a way to prevent that feeling and get your mind enthused about waking up Monday am?

From my experience, starting my week off right with a fierce outfit gives me a boost of confidence needed to get out of "weekend mind" and into "working girl" mode. I have noticed myself set higher goals, feel more apt to speak my mind during meetings and further exude my strengths that make me get the job done, more so than if I'm dressed down.

How you dress will also affect how your coworkers perceive your work. According to Reeves of Forbes, "When starting a new job, remember that you’re being sized up all the time. Little things count. How you dress will tell the boss how you see yourself and how you approach the job...Appearance can create credibility." Therefore, get inspired by the thought of power-working-girl-you and reach for that sleek black pencil skirt or leg lengthening trousers. Even swapping your flats for a pair of heels and adding a statement necklace to a casual outfit can do the trick.

Don't have a jaw dropping closet with an array of power suits and stilettos? No worries. It's not necessarily about what you wear, but how you wear it. Therefore, choose an ensemble that makes you feel good and confident in yourself and your abilities.

Recruitment consultants at Office Angels agree that it all comes down to confidence because when you look good you feel good, and when you feel good, you’re capable of almost anything. "When you're dressed appropriately, your confidence will soar."

Show me one of your confident work outfits and share your advice on dressing for success!
